Two people implicated in the assault on Prisca Thevenot under investigation
The two individuals involved in the attack on Prisca Thevenot, her substitute, and two activists in Meudon on Wednesday, July 3, have been indicted on Friday, July 5. The accusations include violence against an elected official without total incapacity for work, concerning the government spokesperson, according to the Nanterre prosecutor’s office.
The main suspect has been placed in preventive detention while the minor has been placed under judicial supervision with an obligation to be placed in a closed educational center. Aggravating circumstances have been retained for the adult, including violence committed in collaboration with a minor.
In detail, the two suspects are also accused of violence in a group without incapacitation for the uninjured activist, violence against an elected official with a weapon resulting in total incapacity for work of less than eight days, and serious damage to Prisca Thevenot’s substitute, Virginie Lanlo. Finally, accusations of violence in a group with a weapon by an adult acting with a minor are brought against the activist who suffered total incapacity for work of more than eight days.
Suspects already known to justice
The main suspect, aged 20, has already been convicted twice according to his criminal record, for drug trafficking and driving without a license. The minor, aged 17, has been judged for theft in a group and carrying a weapon, and has been subject to a judicial education measure.
Investigations continue to clarify the role of the two accused and identify other individuals involved in these acts of violence, as well as to understand the motivations of the suspects. Four people had been placed in custody as part of the investigation, but two were released due to insufficient evidence.
