Unfortunately, seven people lost their lives in this tragedy, including three children aged 5, 7, and 10. Among the survivors, 19-year-old Zayairoudine is still deeply shocked. His 17-year-old brother tragically lost his life before his eyes. The fire started in the stairwell on the second floor of the building before spreading rapidly to the top floor.

An investigation for voluntary manslaughter opened

A total of ten people lived in this apartment, a family originally from the Comoros. Neighbors, who witnessed the fire, did everything they could to help them, some even brought a mattress to rescue them. According to the initial findings on site, a criminal motive is being considered. Indeed, Anthony Borré, deputy mayor of Nice, stated that CCTV footage from the city showed three hooded individuals, suggesting a deliberate act. Therefore, the Nice prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation for voluntary manslaughter.
