Fire under control in Hérault after the destruction of 320 hectares

The forest fire that ravaged 320 hectares between Gigean and Frontignan on Sunday was finally brought under control, according to information obtained by France Bleu Hérault from the prefect of the department, François-Xavier Lauch. No casualties have been reported, and for the moment, the cause of the fire remains unknown. Authorities are not ruling out any hypothesis for the moment.

Firefighters’ intervention and preventive evacuations

During the fire, about fifteen people were evacuated as a precautionary measure. Up to 600 firefighters were mobilized, with 450 working all night to extinguish residual hotspots. The prefect emphasizes the crucial work of the firefighters who protected around fifty houses threatened by the flames.

Another fire in Nissan

Another fire broke out in the department, this time in Nissan, further to the west. This fire, which burned 60 hectares, has not yet been contained according to François-Xavier Lauch. Despite some optimism, the prefect remains vigilant in the face of changing weather conditions. He commends the mobilization of 200 firefighters from Bouches-du-Rhône, supported by aerial means.

Precautionary measures and call for vigilance

Due to the high risk of fires, five forested areas are closed to pedestrian traffic this Monday. The prefect urges the population to be vigilant and assures that the authorities are fully mobilized to prevent new outbreaks of fire.
