After a disappointing first set, the world number 3 found his game in the second set to outplay the Italian. Despite his 65 winners, the player from Murcia committed 58 unforced errors in his quest to come out on top. In the final set, Carlos Alcaraz, in better physical shape, managed to take the lead early on by breaking his opponent, the future world number 1, who never managed to catch up. This victory qualifies him for his very first final in the prestigious Parisian tournament. He will face either Alexander Zverev or Casper Ruud.
