Today, we highlight Maïté, the iconic chef of France, whose real name is Marie-Thérèse Ordonez. For years, she reigned over the television stoves.
Long before Philippe Etchebest or Cyril Lignac became famous, Maïté was already a culinary star thanks to her successful shows. With “La Cuisine des Mousquetaires”, she shared the screen with Micheline Banzet.
Maïté brought a unique and warm style to her culinary demonstrations, which earned her immense popularity among the French public. Her complicity with Micheline Banzet added a special charm to the show.
What is Maïté doing at 85?
Maïté, whose real name is Marie-Thérèse Badet, captivated the French for two decades with her delicious recipes and funny moments on television. Unforgettable for cult sequences like the ortolan tasting or her fight against a live eel, she became a popular figure on the small screen.
After the end of her show “À Table” in 1999, Maïté quietly withdrew from the public scene, causing concern among her fans. Now 85 years old and suffering from a neurodegenerative disease, she resides in a nursing home in Rion-des-Landes.
Hardships have not been lacking in her personal life. The judicial liquidation of her restaurant in 2015 and the death of her only son Serge in 2013 deeply affected Maïté. For several years, she has chosen not to make any more media appearances or give interviews.
Her granddaughter Camille confirmed this decision in 2019. According to her, Maïté now prefers to quietly enjoy her retirement surrounded by her loved ones without worrying about the spotlight.
