About thirty athletes from Russia and Belarus have been allowed to compete in the Olympic Games under a neutral flag. This decision has sparked criticism in Kiev, where the presence of these athletes is strongly contested.
Some Russian and Belarusian athletes have been invited to participate in the Paris Olympic Games. Despite competing under a neutral flag, their presence is not unanimously accepted among Ukrainian citizens, who express their discontent. Some residents of Kiev, like Olga, believe that these athletes should not be allowed to participate due to the invasion of Ukraine by Russia and Belarus.
Others, like Yuri, a displaced person from the city of Bakhmut, consider that the participation of these athletes goes against the peace values that the Olympic Games are supposed to promote. According to him, this presence sets a shameful precedent, as Russia and Belarus could use every victory for propaganda purposes.
Despite the absence of Russian and Belarusian athletes at the opening ceremony of the Games, on orders from the International Olympic Committee, Ukrainians remain divided on their participation and are deeply affected by the ongoing conflict.
