A transgender woman of Asian descent becomes “Miss Maryland USA” and triggers a storm of criticism: the impact on the LGBTQ+ community

In early June 2024, Bailey Anne Kennedy, a 31-year-old transgender woman, made history by winning the title of “Miss Maryland USA.” This achievement is particularly remarkable as it is the first time a transgender person has won this title.

Originally from the United States and of Asian descent, Bailey Anne is also the first military spouse to receive this recognition. She decided to enter beauty pageants after the age limit was removed last year. Since then, she has been living a dream come true.

Bailey Anne is proud and happy to be able to positively influence her community. She emphasizes the importance of making an impact on various groups such as:

  • The LGBTQIA+ community
  • Military spouses
  • Immigrant women

She also expresses gratitude for this unique opportunity that she never would have dared to imagine before. Her victory resonates as a powerful symbol of inclusion and diversity in the world of beauty pageants.

“We just want to fulfill our dream”

Since her crowning, Bailey Anne Kennedy, the new Miss Maryland USA, has faced sharp criticism and negative reactions. However, these attacks do not affect her. With the support she receives, she remains determined.

A proud representative of the LGTBQA+ community, Bailey hopes that her victory will inspire those facing similar challenges. She strongly encourages women from minority groups to pursue their dreams regardless of their age or gender identity.

On August 4, Bailey Anne Kennedy will participate in the Miss USA 2024 pageant in Los Angeles.
