In this book, the journalist recounts shocking events that he personally experienced, including acts of physical violence and discriminatory behaviors by certain state agents. He mentions the case of a civil servant who was charged in 2023 for violence committed as a person in authority.
A police officer is facing trial for violence against a minor during an arrest that was revealed in the book “Cop”, written by undercover journalist Valentin Gendrot, the Paris prosecutor’s office said. The public prosecutor has requested the referral before the criminal court of Marc F., a policeman at the 19th district police station, for intentional violence against a minor on April 12, 2019. The investigating judge will have to decide on whether the trial will take place. A dismissal was requested for forgery, for which no one had been indicted.
The facts were revealed in Valentin Gendrot’s book, which documented police violence during the arrest of a minor for rebellion and threats in 2019. The police officer had filed a complaint for insult and threats, resulting in the detention of the minor. The latter had reported the violence suffered, with visible injuries.
Marc F. denied some of the alleged blows by Valentin Gendrot, but admitted to using force on the teenager. Secret recordings made by the journalist confirmed some facts. Following these revelations, an internal investigation conducted by the IGPN revealed professional misconduct and behaviors contrary to police ethics.
Marc F. was sanctioned with a three-day suspended exclusion, while three other officers received reprimands for not reporting the violence in the arrest report.
